Inclusive Dance Practice: Ways of Translation and Transmission
A research by Judith Hummel and Markéta Stránská
Phase III: Hradec Králové/Babí (CZ), 1–7 September 2025
In the third and final phase, we moved our work into nature, where we combined practical research with moments of rest, writing, and documentation. The natural environment offered an inclusive space in which sensory experiences — sound, touch, and sight — came to the forefront. Walking became a central practice through which we explored structures, sounds, and shifting perspectives. From these experiences emerged the idea of a card set that serves both as a tangible outcome and an open tool, capturing the collected movement tasks as well as the social and human aspects of our shared process.

Methodology and Research Approach
Our working process for the week was structured around:
- Going to nature, taking a walk with focused tasks and observations.
- Reflecting and writing down experiences.
- Collecting elements for the set of cards to be created.
Throughout this phase, we explored nature and its potential for practicing sensory awareness.

A set of cards – outcome and open tool to use
Fazit
For us, inclusion was primarily expressed through conscious and attentive interaction — in meeting, moving, working, and taking breaks together. Accessibility does not mean making everything available to everyone at all times, but rather being attentive to one another, expressing needs, and respecting boundaries. We understand inclusion as an ongoing, dialogical process based on trust, openness, communication, and the ability to improvise.
